In our recent Over 50’s tournament at The Walkingdome in Wigan, home side Wigan Whites finished top of the five team league to win the prestigious trophy.

It was very close in the end and Wigan Whites finished just ahead of Manchester City.

Whites began by beating Latics Community Trust 4-0, a hat trick by Woosey and one from Anderton earning the 3 points.

The same score line v the Yellows followed in the next game, yet another Woosey hat trick and one from Wilkins seeing us home.

Next up were Tranmere, who were the victims of Whites best performance of the day, with goals from Woosey(2), Fishwick (2) and one from Anderton seeing us run out 5-2 winners.

Next up were Man City who went 2-0 up in the first five minutes,Whites responded and had the chance to reduce the deficit right on half time, unfortunately Wooseys pen was ruled out by the ref because he never waited for the whistle, his second attempt was well saved by the keeper.

City increased their lead after breaking away and Whites faced an enormous task to get back in the game,a 0-3 loss would give City the title on head to head results!

Thankfully 2 excellent goals from O’Keefe and Fishwick reduced the deficit to 2-3 and Whites eventually won it by 4 goals.

Yellows pulled off two excellent wins in beating Latics CT 1-0 (Simm) and then a great 3-2 (Yenulevic2, Charnock) victory over a strong Tranmere side who also had a chance to win the tournament going into the final game.

They lost their other game 0-1 to Man City, they were very unlucky after the ball came back off the post and hit keeper Daintry on the back before rolling over the line. Craig Daintry had been excellent in this game and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

Latics Community Trust lost all four games on the day to finish bottom of the table.

Big THANK YOU to Gary for the tournament report.
